The National Committee Accomplishments

1994

Inscription:

The national report for the Beijing convention in collaboration with the NationalCommission for the Lebanese Women Affairs.

Organization:

·         A convention in  Beirut for the preparation for the Beijing convention.

·         Ten Conferences held in different Lebanese regions covering the Ten domains designated by the UN within the preparation process for Beijing convention.

Training Programs:

Negotiations skills training, for 80 members representatives of the different associations participating in the Beijing Convention.

Participation:

·         Cairo Convention in preparation for the Beijing convention.

·         Jordan Arab regional forum for NGOs in preparation for the Beijing convention

   ( Five  workshops- Managements and Research)

1995

·         Holding an Arab convention in Beirut and Publishing the “Beirut Declaration” prior to the Beijing convention.

·         Participation in preparatory conventions to the Beijing convention

  • Kuwait convention over the “Role of Women in the Development Process”


  • New York convention over the “Political Participation”


  • The Fourth Beijing International Convention for Women.


The forum of Chinese NGOs within the following activities and functions.

-         Organization Workshops

-         The projection of a documentary film of Lebanese women steadfastness in the South of Lebanon.

-         Participation in the Arab Traditional and Cultural Day.

  • The general Convention side by side with the National Commission for the Lebanese Woman Affairs.

-         Staging a demonstration demanding the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon.

-         Holding a number of Radio and TV interviews.

1996

  • A National strategy for the Lebanese Woman in collaboration with the National Commission for the Lebanese Woman Affairs.


  • Publishing the Lebanese working paper – which includes five study projects for the coming five years – in association with the National Commission for the Lebanese Woman Affairs and submitting the projects to the donating nations.


  • Participating in the Amman Arab Forum for NGOs.


1997

  • The National campaign for the support of the participation of women in the political life.


  • Educating, enlighting and training women for leadership in order to activate the participation of women in the local authorities.


  • Organizing meetings and workshops (144 meetings) in the different Lebanese regions and in Beirut.


  • Formation and Launching of communications networks in the different Lebanese regions for negotiations and dialogue management with the Social, civil and political forces


  • Holding a convention in Beirut tackling the issue of activating the role of women in the decision – making.


  • Preparation of the National Committee institutional structure with the UNIFEM working plan for the support of the national women apparatus.


  • Preparation and implementation of five sessions dealing with “Enabling Women for Leadership Roles” in collaboration with the National Committee of UNESCO.


  • Preparation of a curriculum to upgrade the awareness of semi-illiterate women on how to provide educational opportunities for girls and holding practical training session within this context in collaboration with the UNESCO Regional Office.


1998

  • Organizing a press conference for the support of women candidates for the elections of the local authorities and for the announcing their programs at the Press Syndicate Headquarters.


  • Organizing a convention for the evaluation of the National Campaign carried by the National Committee to push women to participate in the local authorities.


  • Participation in the debate of the proposed law by the Parliamentary Justice and Administrative Committee to the National Committee.


  • Implementation of the project for the support of the women national apparatus in establishing the (G.F.P) organizational units within the NGOs.


  • Launching the national campaign for the elimination of all types of legal discrimination against women in collaboration with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung ( FES) and OXFAM.


  • Preparation of the Lebanese document for the Elimination of all Types of Discriminations Against Women in collaboration with the Bar Association and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung ( FES).


  • Capacity building training for the regional units in connection with the Lebanese document for the Elimination of all Types of Discriminations Against Women.

1999

·         Implementation of a national campaign for the Elimination of all Types of Descrimination Against Women.

·         Holding Central and Local meetings in the different Lebanese regions in order to spread awareness concerning the Lebanese legal document (50 meetings)

·         Preparation of the shadow report or the accomplished progress report about the application of the accord signed for the Elimination of all Types of Discrimination Against Women in Lebanon in association with the UNIFEM and UNICEF.

·         Preparation of the NGOs national report ( Beijing ­+5)in the association with the Lebanese Women Council.

·         Organizing a convention for the evaluation of the first stage of the national campaign for the Elimination of all Types of Discriminations Against Women within legal aspects – an evaluation an future prospects.

2000

·         Follow up the implementation process of the national campaign for the Elimination of all Types of Discriminations Against Women.

·         Holding central and local meetings in the different Lebanese regions and in Beirut for the spread of legal awareness in connection with the Lebanese legal document which amounted to 36 meetings.

·         Organizing a seminar over political participation and democracy and peace with the German Justice Minister in collaboration with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES).

·         Participation with Arab and national NGOs for the preparation and organization of the international procession for the women under the motto calling for combating poverty and eliminating all types of discriminations against women.

·         Participation in the Amman NGOs convention in preparation for the Beijing +5

·         Participation in New York convention in preparation for the Beijing +5

·         The formation of trainer TOT for GENDER.

·         Organizing three training sessions on GENDER in collaboration with UNIFEM training 37 individuals NGO members.

·         Adaptation of the NGOs national report post the Beijing convention by the Lebanese government, which was prepared by the National Committee for the Follow up of women’s Issues to be presented for the meeting of Beijing +5

·         Publishing publications by the National Committee on the Arab Women Web Site over the internet.

·         Launching of the national campaign to enhance the participation of women in the parliamentary elections.

·         Preparation of the cognitive material ( Deputies duties and tasks – Electoral laws summary).

·         Women Capacity Building (training).

·         Regional meetings.

·         Organizing a press conference in order to pave the way for women candidates to introduce themselves and their programs.

·         Participation in the Arab Nations convention for coordination and planning post the Beijing and Cairo conventions.

·         Completion of the institutional structure of the National Committee and laying down its administrative and organizational structure.

·         A convention for the evaluation of the National Committee accomplishments of five years (its networks and supporting associations).

2001

  • A workship about institutionalization and future planning
  • The National Committee within its position as a primary partner in the project has implemented the following activities:

      • Three training sessions on the GENDER concept, its role, its needs and its relation with the development process in the regions of the South Lebanon – North Lebanon – The Bekaa Region


      • A workshop over the integration of GENDER within the national strategic axis.


      • A training session on the use of the internet, information technology and communications at the ESCWA.


      • Seminars about the citizenship and public affairs in the following regions :

-         Beirut: Citizenship and participation in public affairs.

-         South Lebanon : Social development and the economic situation in Lebanon.

-         Bekaa : Rural development and its position within the overall well balanced development.

-         North Lebanon : The health situation in Lebanon – challenges and prospects.

  • Meetings with the donors nations and presenting the future plan for the next three years in collaboration with UNIFEM.


  • Distribution of diplomas for trainees who participated in the training sessions for GENDER.


  • The publishing of the book entitled “Supporting women political participation” the national Committee experience – 1998 – 2001
